About S. H.

Hello, I'm S. H.

(I stole the initials for my pen name from a beloved character of mine — an anthropomorphic hare who works as a mortician. Perhaps you'll spot her in a story or two in the future.)

I've written fiction for as long as I can remember. As a child, I would sit at my grandad's computer and write about all sorts of things, including one specific story I recall where children crawl under the school fence and turn into talking animals. I have no doubt that everything I wrote at that age was awful. My grandad would read everything I wrote and, once he'd finished, would tell me that I should keep going. Those old drafts are lost to time, but I never let go of the idea that everything would be okay if I simply kept writing.

Every author will tell you that your writing ability is a muscle that needs to be used if it's going to stay strong. Everyone with ADHD will also tell you that trying to build anything into a regular habit requires the patience of a saint (and the will of one, too). I'm hoping that giving myself the entirely fabricated obligation of a blog will encourage me to stretch that writing muscle at least once a day, even if its only a handful of words. And who knows, maybe some other aspiring authors will find this one day, and my meagre attempt will encourage them to keep going, too.

To anyone reading this — there is always time and you can always start now. You are never too late to do anything. Doing something badly is better than not doing it at all. Talent matters half as much as passion.

- love,
